WestJet plans to buy 65 Boeing 737 MAX jets




WestJet Airlines said it plans to buy 65 new Boeing 737 MAX jets valued at about US$6.3 billion, one of the airline's biggest aircraft orders ever, as it ratchets up competitive pressure on rival Air Canada, reported The Globe and Mail. The order is aimed at renewing WestJet's fleet and providing operating cost savings as it seeks to boost its share of key routes in North America. “It really sets the foundation for the airline for the next 15 years,” said Bob Cummings, the airline's executive vice-president of sales, marketing and guest experience. “This aircraft certainly puts us in a very good position to go after growth,” he said.
