Qantas cancels deal to lease B747 freighter
Qantas Freight has decided against leasing a Boeing 747-ERF freighter as the global air cargo business continues to challenge the airline industry. “In light of recent soft international air freight market conditions Qantas has elected not to finalise this lease agreement,” a spokesman for the Australian carrier said. The spokesman said the change would not impact Qantas Freight's current services and the existing international freighter schedule remained in place. “The air freight industry is cyclical, and Qantas will re-examine options when the markets have strengthened.” Qantas Freight said in April it would replace an older 747-400 freighter with the near new aircraft.
